Succah, attended by a group of distinguished guests including Consul
General of Israel Asaf Shariv, New York State Comptroller Thomas
DiNapoli and Michael Miller, Executive Director Jewish Community
Relations Council (JCRC) Rabbi Shmuel M. Butman, Director Lubavitch
Youth Organization explained the strategic location of this Succah
right across from where "Voices to deny the Holocaust and calls for our
destruction are heard." Quoting from the book of Ecclesiastes (7, 14) "G-d created one against the other" Rabbi Butman said: " The message of the Succah is resoundingly clear, the Jewish People will prevail and it is this Succat Shalom, the Succah of Peace, that will overcome all the diatribes from across the street and bring real peace, true peace, to all the nations of the world." Rabbi Butman stressed what the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Schneerson told, twenty-five years ago, to the then Ambassador to the United Nations Binyamin Netanyahu to "light a candle of truth" in a place of darkness and as Prime Minister Netanyahu, now related, that it were the words of the Rebbe that gave him the inspiration for his speech at the General Assembly of the United Nations. Ambassador Shalev made the blessings over "The Four Kinds" and in her response said that "from here I am going directly to the meeting of the Security Council where they will discuss the Goldstone report and this will give me the strength to stand up to our adversaries."
