Gravity Storm Software Introduces Distributed Patch Management in a New Release of Service Pack Manager v7.1
SAN DIEGO - June 13, 2005 /Software Wire/ - Gravity Storm Software, a leading provider of Windows patch management solutions, today announced the release of the latest version of Service Pack Manager (SPM). Version 7.1 of SPM now offers IT professionals the capability to set up a centralized approval process for security patches and deploying these patches to secondary servers in the network to be distributed to the network machines.
By approving and distributing the security patches the IT professional can control which security patches are deployed into the network. New security patches can be tested by a central testing and approving authority. This can save the IT staff from duplicate efforts of patch testing and approval. A centralize research, testing, and approval authority introduces a more cost-efficient and accountable structure and process of security patch deployment in the enterprise.
SPM V.7.1 has also enhanced the ability to manage and secure the Windows Firewall which is shipping with the latest versions of Windows XP SP2 and Windows 2003 SP1.
With the latest version of SPM, IT professionals can automatically detect all the machines on the network running Windows Firewall. They can easily and quickly scan these machines and determine which of the machines are in compliance with user-defined Windows Firewall policy. The compliancy checks are performed at the level of allowed/blocked ports and programs and are indicated in the scan results. The Windows Firewall policy can be distributed throughout the enterprise with a click of the mouse.
The software offers an intuitive User Interface and simple yet powerful and flexible operation that saves time, effort and money when dealing with the configuration of individual or groups of machines which are now running their own firewall. Service Pack Manager does not require the use of Active Directory, Group Policies or scripting. The product's learning curve is short and ease of use makes it accessible to all levels of IT skills. Configuring Windows Firewall on hundreds or thousands of machines takes only minutes due to the simultaneous execution of policy updates on each of the target machines.
