Valve Manufacturers' Technical Seminar, March 6-7, to Focus on Alternative Energies & Fuels
WASHINGTON, DC -- Dec. 11, 2007/Xpress Press/You can hardly read an industry article without seeing reference to alternative energy sources as the nation pursues its quest to provide renewable energies and diminish our dependence on foreign energy sources and fossil fuels. The timing couldn't be better for a program on "Preparing the Valve Industry for Alternative Energies & Fuels," the topic of the Valve Manufacturers Association 2008 Technical Seminar & Exhibit, March 6-7, 2008, at the Sheraton Tampa Riverwalk Hotel, Tampa, Fla.
"This is sure to be a hot topic," said David Bayreuther, VMA Technical Committee chairman and vice president of engineering, Metso Automation, Shrewsbury, Mass. "When members of the technical committee were selecting a theme for the 2008 event, we felt an education program focusing on alternative energies and fuels-and how they will affect everyone in the industrial valve industry, from suppliers to manufacturers to users-would be of enormous interest," said Bayreuther.
The day-and-a-half-long program will include various sessions conducted by industry experts:
-- Energy Policies and the Technologies That Play a Role in Achieving
Policy Goals-Thomas White, U.S. Department of Energy
-- New Demands on Valves for GTL Facilities-Tony Smart, Shell Global
Solutions International B.V.
-- The Evolution of Energy in Western Canada-Keith Wourms, Cameron Valves
& Measurement
-- The Evolution of the Ethanol Manufacturing Process-Gregory Hausmann,
PE, PMP, ICM Inc.
-- Tank Car Valves Defined and Exposed-Wade Woodall, Trinity Rail
-- Developing the Hydrogen Infrastructure-Dave Guro, Future Energy
Solutions Group, Air Products & Chemicals Inc.
Also on the agenda are several sessions about the reviving nuclear industry:
-- The Nuclear Renaissance from a Supplier's Perspective-Gary Wolski,
Curtiss-Wright Flow Control Nuclear
-- Safety Considerations in New Nuclear Plant Designs-David Churchman,
Black & Veatch
-- Equipment Life Extension and Qualification for Nuclear Plant
Applications-Neal Estep and Dr. M.S. Kalsi, Kalsi Engineering, Inc.
-- Emerging Electric Actuator Technologies for Nuclear Power Applications-
Earnest Carey, Flowserve Limitorque
In addition, VMA will host a tabletop exhibition featuring products and services offered by companies that serve as suppliers to valve manufacturers.
The VMA Technical Seminar & Exhibition is the only VMA-sponsored educational event open to non-members; sessions are designed to interest not only valve, actuator and control manufacturers, but those who use and maintain valves and other flow control products in industrial settings.
The registration fee is $595; all attendees receive a booklet with copies of presentations. A special room rate of $169 is available at the Sheraton Tampa Riverwalk (call 813-223-2222 and request the VMA group rate by Feb. 12, 2008).
